Economic Conditions Effect on Civility in Politics
This polemic paper was my first attempt to enter into the discussion of political communication. I attempted to prove what is common knowledge to most: that poor economic conditions causes for a decrease in civility between political entities. As my first experience breaking down ongoing arguments and discussion into a table of my arguments, counterpoints, and respective support I came away with learning an effective method to convey lengthy debate.
Chicago Model United Nations: Second Committee
Participating in the 2011 Chicago Model U.N. I worked interdependently to develop positions papers for the Netherlands. In order to do this I had to research the Netherlands' economy, composition of financial institutions, and history on microfinance and renewable energy development in low, lower-middle, and middle income countries.
To end this research I worked with a partner to complete a three day long simulation of U.N. committee work and plenary sessions. Wherein we successfully debated for the interests of the Netherlands and the completion of Millennium Development Goals.

The Roles of Microfinance and Blockages to Access
Understanding that microfinance can be an effective tool in combating poverty, and aid in increase women's rights and mobility in developing countries a group of three Economics 375 and I decided to take on a research project that would look into how this praised tool is most effectively applied. Whether it there is a difference between non-for-profits and for-profit institutions providing this financial aid is one of the ways we are beginning to approach this topic.
My interest for microfinance grew in 2011 when I attending a Model U.N. conference in Chicago. I was responsible for understanding microfinance my countries stances on the ongoing debate of for-profit versus non-for-profit institutions. I truly think that it is one of the tools that can help us reach the Millennium Goals and am excited to learn more about it through this project.

Policy Memo: Wisconsin Beer Tax
What started off as a two to three paragraph assignment in my public policy class became an interest of mine and turned me toward the idea of one day monitoring and advising on public policy.
Taking into consideration the needs of the electorate, legislators, interest groups, and public welfare I utilized past studies, news sources, and knowledge of the Wisconsin electorate to develop a policy memo in regards to raising the tax on alcoholic beverages in Wisconsin.
